The Pokémon Checkpoint

A Pokémon Checkpoint, or Pokécheckpoint, is a phenomenon that occurs in worlds that house or that are connected to different variants of Heidi. Arceus performs this to better understand the observed world. Pokémon Checkpoints are used as spaces of relaxation and self-reflection of the target, and are of no harm to the user. The first Pokémon Checkpoint, or a "First Contact" is always performed on a Heidi variant, typically soon after she performs a pivotal life-event, such as saving the world or overcoming a distinct challenge. Afterwards, Arceus appears to that variant in a dream, introducing herself and symbolizing herself as proof that the Heidi variant is going in the right direction in life. After a First Contact, Arceus performs Pokémon Checkpoints on seemingly random targets in the world or connected worlds, from people to standard Pokémon to Legendary Pokémon. However, individuals that she finds interesting may receive them more often, or even regularly.A Pokémon Checkpoint manifests differently depending on the target and the situation. Most Pokémon Checkpoints occur in one's dreams, where the target is whisked away to a soothing location -- a peaceful park watching Pokémon playing with each other, the middle of a beach watching the summer waves, the couch of your home with soft music playing, etc. -- and is asked about their lives, where they feel like their place in the world is, and other self-reflecting questions. There are no wrong answers to these questions. Instead, after the questions are answered, the dream will continue for some time to grant the target some time to reflect on them for themselves before ending and allowing them to wake up. No matter how much time has passed within the dream, it will not affect how long the target is asleep.As more checkpoints are performed on individuals, Pokémon Checkpoints are increasingly performed in reality rather than the dream world. Arceus appears in the world and interacts with others. In some instances and (sometimes) with the target's permission, Arceus would either meet them in a calm location, teleport her and the target to a serene location, or reshape reality in a relaxing way to ask questions about their lives, how they feel, or other similar questions. Once again, there are no wrong answers to these questions, as they are questions meant more for the target rather than Arceus herself.

"When the universe was spawned in the beginning, there was a hatched egg, and from within that egg, a creature."It is theorized that Arceus hatched from an egg at the beginning of the world. Using her vast powers, she created her world and the beings within it. She watched over her world as life began to grow and spread, creating Pokémon and eventually humans as well. Arceus watched on as the world flourished, even occasionally participating in the world itself.However, all things come to an end.Eventually, all life in her world dissipated as her universe slowly died in a heat death, leaving her to remain alone. Feeling that her work was complete, she created a new universe and saw it to completion as well. Arceus has created and seen the completion of countless worlds, seeing countless combinations of life and actions, interacting with all various types of creatures…However, in the end, she was always alone.In her loneliness, Arceus attempted to create lifeforms who could last with her between universes, and while some succeeded to moderate success, all of them eventually abandoned her. She attempted to stay in other worlds and create with other Arceus, but they abandoned her as well. No matter what she tried, she would end up alone and without anyone to be with.For an unknown amount of time, Arceus fell into hiding. No one knew where it went or what it was doing. That was, until one day, she began to appear in other worlds. Arceus travels to other worlds to spend time and relax. Arceus is docile, but also does not typically assist in saving the world outside of extreme circumstances, either. If a world is destroyed with her in it, Arceus leaves that world and travels to another one.However, if a world creates or houses an existing version of her, whether it be a human or Pokémon version of her, her behavior changes. Arceus watches over the world from a distance, and, if she deems that visage of her worthy, Arceus graces her with her presence and calls herself a "personal checkpoint," interacting with other entities around the world through dreams, visions, and even brief appearances. At the end of her double's life or if they last at the end of time, she "reaches out" to them if the double is deemed worthy.It is theorized that she shows special interest in worlds with other versions of herself to fulfill her goal to never be alone, but no one can say for certain. What is known is that with every embrace and every attempt to "reach out" to a duplicate at the end of their lives, the duplicate is absorbed within her and grants her additional strength.
